Naturex has filed a patent application on a breakthrough technology that produces Biomimetic Botanicals using Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NaDES)
Naturex has succeeded in extracting plant metabolites with a new and unique biomimetic approach. The plant itself and NaDES combine to create biomimetic botanicals, a revolutionary method that reproduces the plant’s intracellular environment by replicating certain physiological plant mechanisms. Botanical elixirs obtained using this method contain the most precious metabolites, produced via a synergistic technology that plants naturally use to solubilize essential molecules, as phytochemicals are not always fully soluble in lipid or water phases. NaDES, mainly composed of osmolites, represent a third type of liquid phase, which enables the cell to maintain its integrity and withstand harsh environmental challenges including drought, desiccation, and extreme temperatures.
Hence, the primary functional metabolites of plants (NaDES) are used to extract the secondary active metabolites, and create innovative phytochemical profiles. The best from nature, inspired by plant cell life, is now available for skin and hair formulations.
The patent application protects the entire process, including the various compositions of different NaDES, along with the selection of extraction processes, the biomimetic botanicals and their uses in applications. It encompasses the newly discovered phenomenon, termed “eutectigenesis.” NaDES and the biomimetic botanicals are stable, clear and fluid at ambient temperature. This 100% natural process improves the extraction of bioactive compounds and preserves the most essential elements of plants for superior cosmetic benefits. These achievements were developed in collaboration with ORTESA laboratory scientists who advance research in green chemistry and alternative solvents. A range of NaDES specific liquid extracts developed by Naturex are available for sampling and testing in finished cosmetic products.
