South Hackensack, USA September 2016. Not every supplier can offer customers an intimate peek into the making of an ingredient from seed to extract, but that is exactly what Naturex aims to do. The company has been tackling the complex issues of traceability, authentication and sustainability from the start and is using its learnings to help set the industry on the right path
Tracing the development of its green tea, Naturex illustrates its complete program of initiatives.
Preserving the environment and fostering sustainable economic growth with the Sustainability Pathfinder Program. Tea leaves are grown in the Sichuan mountains of rural China, far from any sources of pollution. The supplier has been a leader in the county’s reforestation program, planting nearly 350,000 trees. Good Agricultural and Collection Practices are employed to limit the use of pesticides in accordance with the principles of the program. Picked by hand, the production provides income to the local community, which is able to sustain a vibrant local economy and support the education of community children.
Addressing the crucial question of traceability throughout the supply chain with TRACE. The tea leaves and extract are subject to strict testing, auditing and control procedures detailed in the TRACE program. Starting in the field, the crop is regularly subjected to direct audits by Naturex purchasing managers. A battery of tests are performed on the raw material to ensure authenticity. Processed in China, the tea is standardized to guarantee its concentration in polyphenols.
Giving the full report to customers: ID packs. A comprehensive ingredient ID pack is made available to customers, detailing the multiple tests carried out on the raw material and extract in order to demonstrate its authenticity.
