Naturex continues its expansion into the Indian market

03/30/2017

Avignon, France 03/30/2017- The Indian food industry has experienced a real boom in the past few years and still has considerable growth potential. Today, the local agri-food market is estimated to be worth 258 billion dollars and is expected to reach 482 billion in 2018*.

A local production unit that is responsive to the Indian market

The Naturex group, the natural ingredients specialist, posted double-digit growth in the Asia-Pacific region in 2016. Having operated in India for the past five years, the company is familiar with the specific demands and regulations of the local market. Its production unit in the Mumbai region is at the forefront of innovation in the fields of natural colourings and specialty fruit and vegetables.
The factory specialises in powdered and liquid pigments and in powdered fruit and vegetables. In 2015, its surface area doubled and its production capacity increased by 40%. An entirely new building, with a reduced environmental footprint, houses the extraction, processing and drying workshops as well has two pilot plants. Its product range has expanded over the years to include pigments such as paprika, curcuma and annatto. The factory also boasts new equipment, used for producing high-fruit-content granules and flakes (from bananas, mangos, strawberries and beetroot, among others). This production unit employs around 60 people and is approved for the manufacture of baby food.

Helping local communities: the Naturex Foundation

Naturex is aware of its social and environmental responsibilities, which is why it supports over 500 children from disadvantaged communities through both its Foundation and the Magic Bus NGO. Its social development program focuses on basic educational principles, such as gender equality, hygiene and social interaction, using sport to get the message across.

“Our commitments in India reflect Naturex’s geographical expansion strategy, and aims to respond to our customers’ demands in this expanding market ,” states Jean-Philippe Giorgis, Senior Vice-President of Naturex for the Asia-Pac region. “India – where Naturex has recorded some of its strongest growth in Asia-Pacific – is one of the main factors propelling us towards the objective set out in our strategic plan, Bright2020. The activity of the Roha factory goes beyond the Indian borders, as this production unit is capable of responding to the needs of the entire Asian continent. By 2020, our aim is to conclude 25% of the group’s sales in emerging countries.”
